Celebrating Matariki with Rakau Sticks

We were really impressed by the talent our students showed when creating a short sequence of moves with rakau sticks.

Making our Korowai

A fantastic time was had by our students while decorating their templates for our Matariki Korowai. Paint, glitter, feathers and more were used to create beautiful and vibrant designs. We look forward to sharing some photos soon of the completed korowai worn by our students.

Weaving Matariki Stars

It was so lovely to see our senior students help the juniors weave their Matariki stars. The final products looked amazing!

Maori Fry Bread

All the students at St Therese School worked in groups to make Maori Fry Bread as part of our Matariki celebrations. Every group followed the instructions and worked well as a team to successfully make their own fry bread. With a bit of butter and jam on top, there were many satisfied smiles. Delicious!

Maori Lessons with Matua Hayden

Each Friday the students of Room 6 have been participating in Maori lessons with Matua Hayden.  We have learnt about tikanga, karakias, himenes and waiatas.

Matua Hayden has also taught us some really fun games that involve using Te Reo Maori.
