“Be The Change” School Production

‘True colours, volcanic activity, disco party and swing dancing in one hour, how is that possible?’

St Therese School held a production on the 17th of June, giving their audience a night to remember.  Room 1 gave away what they had learnt about the 4 stunning seasons.  Room 2 performed a dance about beautiful butterflies and room 3 showed everyone what values are and what they mean.  Room 4 changed the atmosphere by telling everyone how communication has changed throughout history.  Room 5 excited the room with their love story and lastly room 6 had the room dancing with their rock and roll dance, the ceilidh, a disco dance and a hip hop number.  All these events were combined into one production.  It was truly a night to remember.

The preparation it took to get this production perfect involved a lot of hard work and dedication.  Every Friday everyone would look forward eagerly to their production practice.  All classes would get 30 minutes to an hour on their piece.  For the disco dance, I was a part of the 80’s and for the whole of term 2 I had to get my groove on, with lots of disco spirit.  Learning the steps to this 80’s sensation was easy peasy.  It was the same dance steps, just in line dancing formation.

Our production was called ‘BE THE CHANGE.’  Our organisers were Megan Flynn and Fiona Jennings.  Our choreographer was an amazing dancer called Topz.  Our production included: the Changes in seasons, Changes in mountains, Changes in life and Changes in communication and dance.  The reason we chose the theme ‘CHANGE’ was because that was our topic for the term.  I learnt lots of new things about change, like how people used to communicate, such as using Morse Code on ships or semaphores in the forest.  I also learnt new dances, such as the ceilidh, which is a dance from Scotland in the 1800’s and the rock and roll dance from the 1950’s.  These dances are so old I felt as if I had fallen asleep being a part of them.

One of the positive effects of the outstanding performance on June 17th was that all the students performing had a smile on their faces as wide as an elastic rubber band.  Another positive effect about it was that all the students came on stage with their hearts beating outside of their chests.  One more positive effect was that all parents remained in their seats while we were performing with joy.

To sum up, from our wonderful production performance, I learnt new ways to communicate with others, for example, using a cell phone or the phonetic alphabet.  While I was performing on stage I felt as if I was dancing in the 80’s.  I had a whole ball of spirit in my soul just wanting to dance.  Being a part of the ‘Be the Change’ performance was the greatest opportunity I have ever had.  I hope next year we can perform a bigger and better production.
