‘God defend our free land’. That was St Therese School impressing the Bishop with our magnificent voices at the beginning of the ceremony to bless our new buildings. My heart was thumping up and down. I felt exhilarated and couldn’t wait to see what Bishop Pat Dunn looked like.
Firstly there was Mr Tapene and the sensational Kapa Haka performance. They performed a peaceful song that they sang so gently that it made me want to fall asleep.
Representatives from each class said a prayer with courage and strength. The Tongan group represented their culture with pride. The Samoan girls impressed the Bishop with their beautiful Samoan dance and I was one of them. I felt a little nervous performing in front of so many people.
Soon Mrs Mauger came and said a few words, to thank everyone who had worked on the buildings. Kyp, our MC, called out each person to walk around with the Bishop blessing the new buildings. I was very proud to be one of the people selected to walk around with our wonderful Bishop. Finally we were all able to munch on our delicious shared lunch.
