Speed Date an Author
On Monday 26th of March 2012, five of the top writers in St Therese School, Emmanuela, Dimitruis, Nivielei, Calin and I were chosen to go to the National Library to meet six famous authors who could help us make our writing better, by giving us some skills to develop in our writing. One of my favourite authors whom I enjoyed working with was Maria Gill. She gave us some tips to make our writing more interesting. Some important points were:
* to jazz up our verbs and nouns
* to grab the reader from the start
It was a fantastic opportunity to go and work with famous authors who passed on some knowledge and give us tips to develop our writing.

On Monday 28th of March 2012, five lucky kids from St Therese were given a great opportunity to take part in an Author’s Writing Session where we developed a number of skills for our writing. Seini, Calin, Dimitruis, Nivielei and I learnt a lot about how to think beyond the picture when writing narratives. We were lucky to be mentored by six amazing authors who were Maria Gill, Mark Somerset, Dylan Horrocks, Darryl Torckler, Janice Marriott and Melinda Syzmanik. Maria Gill was by far the best because she not only wrote books that were interesting but she taught me how to describe something indirectly. For example, when describing Red Riding Hood’s coat we wrote, “As she walked through the forest, it moved behind her dancing in the breeze.”
At the end of the day, it was a privilege to be chosen for this writing session, and without Mrs Piper this wouldn’t be possible.
